Virginia Beach is part of Virginia’s southeastern coast. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of nearly 450,000, a number that is has been estimated to top only 8 years later. The city is mostly suburban and holds the title of the most populous city in Virginia as well as the 44th most populous in the entire country. The city, located on the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay is known as “America’s First Region” including Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Suffolk as well as a variety of smaller cities. Early in the cities life, it was a settlement for immigrants looking to make a new life for themselves in the United States. But today, the town is arguably one of the country’s biggest resort cities due to its miles of beaches and hundreds of hotels, motels, and restaurants that overlook its oceanfront.

Besides the events at 5th Street Beach Stage, the region also hosts the East Coast Surfing Championships as well as a variety of soccer tournaments and championships each year. The city also features some of the most luxurious state parks, protected beach areas, corporations, and two Universities all protected by three military bases. The city is recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as having the longest pleasure beach in the world, which 5th Street Beach Stage is a huge part of.
